Two years after the well attended First THORPEX International Science Symposium in held in Montreal, Canada, the international weather research and forecasting community reconvenes in the centre of Europe. This focussed single session conference runs under the auspices of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO). THORPEX is 'A World Weather Research Programme accelerating improvements in the accuracy of one day to two week high-impact weather forecasts for the benefit of society, the economy and the environment'.

Call for papers (closed)

STISS builds on current advances on all fields of research aiming at the general goals of THORPEX as given above.

Contributions are welcome from the academic research community, research laboratories, operational weather prediction centres and end users of meteorological forecasts.

The five sessions of STISS are along the themes of the THORPEX working groups:

      1.     Predictability and Dynamic Processes (PDP)
      2.     Observing System (OS)
      3.     Data Assimilation and Observing Strategies (DAOS)
      4.     Societal and Economic Research and Applications (SERA)
      5.     THORPEX Interactive Grand Global Ensemble (TIGGE)

Presentations can be made in two equally important forms: short oral ones to the plenary (12 min. plus 3 min. discussion) and longer discussions at poster stands in the foyers during extended periods in mid-afternoon. The programme committee reserves the right to distribute submissions into both categories for a timely succession of all admitted submissions.

Registration and submissions of short (300 words) abstracts could be made electronically via this website at WMO. Meanwhile the submission of contributions is closed.
