Experiment description
For research of dynamic meteorology in mountain waves, the DLR Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IPA) could allure Klaus Ohlmann of the Mountain Wave Project to fly his Stemme S10VT in the Argentinian Andes. The measurement campaign coincides with and supports the SouthTRAC campaign. To enable the Stemme airplane for wind and turbulence measurements, DLR-IPA developed a thermodynamic measurement system for the aircraft, including a flow probe, inertial measurement unit, temperature and humidity sensors. The goal of the campaign is to collect three-dimensional wind, temperature and humidity data along the soaring flight path to quantify the dynamics of the mountain waves close to their origin and reaching up to the tropopause.
